Log Cabin Constructs

My favorite quilt block is the log cabin block. It became popular in the U.S. during the 1860s, becoming synonymous with America’s pioneer spirit.

I love the idea of a strong center surrounded by blocks of support. Traditionally, a red center would symbolize a home’s hearth, while a yellow center signaled a welcoming light. Folklore states that a black center indicated a stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.

My Log Cabin Constructs are a contemporary take a traditional block. I use a mix of fabrics and “age” them with coffee and tea.
